Photographer Helmut Newton Dies in Accident

(AP) LOS ANGELES (AP) - Helmut Newton was a trailblazer in the photography world, exploring power, gender roles and an icy sexuality in his pictures. Newton apparently lost control of his Cadillac while leaving the famed Chateau Marmont hotel and crashed into a wall, said Officer April Harding, a police spokeswoman.

The photography world just lost the first and perhaps greatest fetish photographer of all time today. His worked has influenced me greatly and my sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

Wed, February 4, 2004 - 10:20 PMThat makes me so sad..his photos really spoke to me when I was growing up...made me realize that women had power. I know that sounds cheesey, but it's true. I heard he had died, but had no idea he died in a car accident - do you think he was drunk? I have been to the Chateau M and boy are their drinks HUGE!
